Ayurveda is a Science of Life which has Natural Ways to treat various diseases. Many Herbs or Ayurvedic Medicines are explained in the ancient text books for their actions, properties and benefits. Kanchnar, Guggul, Varun, Shilajit, Arjun, Nagbala, Chandan etc are wonderful herbs that help take care of the prostate.

As men age there are many chances for men to develop hypertrophy of the prostate, which is known as BPH ( Benign Prostate Hyperplasia). It is a condition which affects men after the age of 40, sometimes 50, due to imbalance of sex hormones. The prostate gland surrounds the urethra which passes urine from the bladder to the penis and then out. This gland produces fluid that carries sperm during ejaculation. In prostate enlargement, this can press on the urethra and create urinary and bladder problems.

The exact cause of this prostatic hypertrophy occurs is not known. It takes place due to the changes in the balance of sex hormones. It has been known that BPH occurs mainly in older men.

Symptoms presented are difficulty in the starting of urination, weak urine stream, dribbling at the end of urination, recurrent need to urinate, increased occurrence of urination at night time, not being able to completely empty the bladder and urinary tract infection with impaired kidney functions.

It can be diagnosed with number of tests like, detailed questioning of symptoms, digital rectal examination, urine analysis, prostate specific antigen test (PSA), tran rectal ultrasound, prostate biopsy etc to rule out the condition of prostate enlargement.

New Year's Resolution Check In

March 2014-Today we are checking in with your New Year's Resolution.  Are you still going strong?  Are you losing steam?  Or have you completely quit?  Half of New Year's Resolutions have been given up by the end of January and 75% by March 1st.  Most of the resolutions that fail are attached to health, wellness and fitness.  In fact only 12% of Resolutions get resolve.  If this is you, do not despair.  I am here to help.  Most resolutions fail for the following reasons:

1. Not enough money to follow through.

2. Not enough motivation.

3. Not telling anyone about their resolution.

4. No accountability.

5. Not sure how to do it.

So why am I telling you all of this?  To give you reasons to quit?  No!  I am going to give you the answers that will keep you going and seeing success.

1. Not enough money.  If this is you let me tell you something: "80% of what you will spend on healthcare will be spent in the last 10 years of your life."  That is if you do not take care of your health now!  With that in mind it is important to find cheaper ways to workout.  Use a $20 a month gym, exercise while doing daily activity (squat in line at the bank, grocery store, waiting for the bus) and shop for whole, unprocessed foods.  Prepared, packaged foods are more expensive.

2. Not enough motivation.  Many people do not see immediate results and lose motivation.  Set small goals smash that goal and set a new one.  I tell my clients let's try for 2lbs a week and check in every two weeks.

3. Not telling anyone.  If you do not tell anyone, no one can support you and make you feel good about what you are doing.  A support system is the number one factor in success with weight loss.

4. No accountability.  You may have bought some dvd's or joined a gym but you never go and you never pop that dvd in and push play.  Hiring a fitness professional or health coach will keep you accountable, especially if you have access to them through social media.

5. Not sure how to do it.  There is so much confusion and disinformation it is hard to know what is the right way to reach your goals.  No one program or lifestyle works for everybody.  So again, finding a fitness professional or health coach can design a program that fits your needs, time, likes and dislikes.

If you are in need of help contact a Personal Trainer or Health Coach and get started on a goal setting session today.  For your convenience my info is provided below.  Best of luck!

Taking Time for Health and Wellness

Choosing What is Necessary vs What is Important

We all find time to do what we really want to do. - William Feather

When I talk to people I always hear: "I don't have time to exercise" or "I don't have time to cook".  Many people have jobs that take up a lot of time and if it's not that it's often family that eats up our time.  But I will tell you this: if you do not take time for health and fitness now, you must make time for being sick later.  And it will also cost you more later so it is best to invest in your health now.

When I ask people what is important to them these are the common responses I get:
-Money to live
-Food
-Job
-Family/kids
-Friends

But I ask you, what is necessary for you to enjoy all of these things?  The answer is your health.  Without your health you can not work to make money to buy food for your family.  Without your health you may not be able to spend time with family and friends the way you want to.  Without your health you may not be able to enjoy daily activities.  80% of what you spend on health care will be spent during the last ten years of your life if you do not take charge now.  Those last ten years should be spent seeing and doing what you've always wanted to do, not in hospital bed watching the world pass you by.

So now that you understand taking time for your health is important here are some tips to get fitness and nutrition into your life.

-First lets tackle this idea of you can't make time.  Of course you can't make time, there's only 24 hours in a day!  But you can take time for what is necessary.  It's all in what you do with the 24 hours you are given.  If you make exercise a part of your daily routine, say just before or after work, it becomes part of your day and not something extra you have to do.

-If you can't get to the gym you can always do video workouts or play with your kids Wii.  Have you played any of these dance games?  They are so much fun and burn a ton of calories.  You can also hire a personal trainer that comes to your home and that saves travel time.

-Squeeze in a workout on your lunch hour.  Take a walk before eating lunch or do some office aerobics/exercises.  You can do push ups on the wall or off your desk, crunches off the floor or seated, jumping jacks or run in place.

How about finding time to cook?  I've got tips for you right here:

-Plan your meals ahead of time.  Know what you are going to be cooking and set an intention.

-Choose one day to do all your prep work.  All you need is a couple hours on one day to cut your vegetables, marinate your meats, cook your dried beans and make any sauces as well as salads.  This way all you have to do is slap it together the day of in 20 minutes or less.

-Make meals that you can eat more than once.  Cook once, eat three times.  Excellent example are chili, soups, stews and casseroles.

You must take time for what is necessary for you to go about your daily life.  There are two things we take for granted until it is gone money and our health.   Don't let your health hold you back from the things you love to do and the things that are important to you.  Need help finding the time?  Contact me and lets get you living healthy and living longer.
